Martin Jay Laura Jr. founder,
Compassion's PC started because of a trend I noticed in my profession running cable services and installations. Houses I would visit with predominantly elderly people, were often clueless when it came to their televisions and tablets, they owned. You would usually find them sitting in their brand-new boxes, with no attention given to them whatsoever. Hence, as I installed their cable, I would out of politeness setup their televisions and smart gadgets in addition, because what use is cable without the television?
As I did this, I realized majority of them seemed very pleased and happy with the help I was offering them for free. You could tell it seemed a huge favor for which they were truly grateful. Sincerely I could understand this, because perhaps, nobody had taken their time to be that helpful or compassionate with them to guide them with technology new to them.
So, I thought to myself:
What if the elderly could operate their own gadgetry with ease?
What if someone was patient enough to teach them how? Just as I showed them compassion to do the setup, I could have compassion to teach them and reduce their dependency on someone else.
It was from this Compassion's PC was born. A place where the elderly can learn to use computers and today’s technologies at their own pace without fear of judgement or harsh treatment. We have the desire to create a new generation of elderly people who can use and leverage technology for their benefit and the benefit of others, reducing their codependency and the feeling of being forgotten by society.
